The beautiful golden, unspoilt and safe beaches (there are two) of Puerto la Duquesa are less than 200 metres away from the complex, as is the Marina with its wide choice of shops and restaurants ensuring that all your requirements are on your doorstep. For bargain hunters, there is a traditional open-air market every Sunday morning where all kinds of goods are for sale. Estepona, with its beautiful beach and promenade is only 5 minutes drive away, There you can enjoy water-skiing, wake-boarding and ski tubing or allow a professional guide from the Blue Dolphin Beach Club assist you in locating the Mediterranean Dolphins. Estepona also hosts one of the largest Equestrian Centres on the coast providing horseback excursions and riding lessons for all ages. To the east, the famous cosmopolitan towns of Marbella and Puerto Banus with there designers shops, casinos, restaurants and extensive nightlife are 15/20 minutes along the coast. The traditional white Spanish village of Casares with its panoramic views of the coastline is only a 20-minute drive inland. To the west, the exclusive resort of Sortogrande is only a 12-minute drive from your apartment, providing an excellent selection of fine restaurants, cafes, bars and designer shops. Selwo Park, just a 9 minute drive away, is Europe's largest and most innovative open air game reserve and nature park, set on more than 100 hectares the park has 1500 wild animals from all five continents which co-exist in semi-wild conditions. For the Golfer For the discerning golfer, this scenic stretch of coast also boasts some of the best golf courses in Europe. The world renowned Valderama Golf Course which hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup, as well as the American Express Match Play Championships is only a 10-minute drive away. Other world class Golf Courses nearby are Sotogrande, San Rogue, Real Club du Golf and La Canada. The par 72 Championship Golf Course on your doorstep at La Duquesa also boasts a 19 bay driving range and two manicured putting greens. Estepona Golf Club is a 3 -minute drive away and an additional 15-minutes drive offers further choice of Aloha, Los Naranjos, La Quinta and Las Brisas to mention but a few.
For the sightseer Worth a day trip is a visit to Gibraltar a 20-minute drive down the Costa del Sol coast. Each year, around 4 million people stream across the frontier at La Linea to visit this speck of England bolted on to Spain. Pubs, pints of ale, fish and chips, pound sterling, duty free shopping and Bobbies on the beat all contrast with Spanish traditions. A cable car runs from the centre of the town to the top of the Rock, there you will meet Gibraltar's most famous residents the Barbary apes! Not to be missed is a visit to Ronda, one of the most spectacularly located cities in Spain. Ronda sits on a massive rocky outcrop, straddling a precipitous limestone cliff. The Plaza de Toros is the spiritual home of bullfighting, inaugurated in 1785, it is one of the oldest and most important bullrings in Spain. Marbella, 25 minutes from La Duquesa is one of Europe's most exclusive holiday resorts. Royalty, film stars and other members of the international jet set spend their summers here with its old town of narrow alleys, squares, courtyards and smart restaurants. One of the highlights of Marbella is eating outside in the Plaza de los Naranjos, the main square, shaded by orange trees. If you like to explore by car and don't mind a 2.5-hour drive, Seville is well worth the effort. Conveniently, many of its principal sights can be found within or very near the city centre The Andalusian capital, the third largest city of Spain, is among the most beloved places by tourists, thanks to its unique ambience and its great monuments: the Arabian belltower Giralda, the city's landmark, the enormous cathedral, Torre del Oro, and the old district Barrio Santa Cruz are among the highlights. For the more adventurous, why not enjoy a day trip to Morocco on the North African coast in a luxury fast line boat with a 35-minute crossing time from the port of Algeciras. For the ski enthusiasts, the sunny pistes of the world famous Sierra Nevada are only 2 hours 45 minutes away. Weather Andalusia has the best climate in all of Europe! It is characterized as dry, sunny and mild. This is due in part to its close proximity to both the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean - in particular, the warm influx of air directly off the African continent. Autumn and spring conditions are superb with great day time highs in the 20's and evening lows in the teens. Occasionally we may experience a rainstorm and cloud cover. Summer in Andalusia is strikingly hot in the day and extremely pleasant at night. Winters in our region are mild, sunny and generally pleasant. Rains and winds can be experienced on occasion. However, temperatures can still reach above 20 degrees Celsius in the day. Snow falls only high up on the Sierra Nevada. Evenings are cool but only require light jackets. |
